As I am writing this, it is hard to believe that Spring is here when it is 9 degrees outside and there are still a couple of feet of snow on the ground! The sun is getting stronger though and the days are getting longer. It won’t be long and we’ll be able to shake off the cobwebs, the cabin fever and the outdoor activities that our club has to offer will again be available for your enjoyment.
Our fish and game stocking programs are ready to roll, Sporting Clays will be starting up again in April and, as always, Trap and Skeet. Come on up and have some fun, but please pitch in and lend a hand during our Annual Clean-up Day. We normally have a good turnout but could always use the help. Remember; Many hands make light work!!!
I hate to sound like a broken record but we really need your help recruiting new members. Our membership numbers keep dropping every year which makes it really difficult to keep our dues and assessments low. We’ve had several suggestions from members to increase our number, but to be honest, because we require existing member sponsorship, open membership or membership drives don’t work for us. That is why we are appealing once again to you.
Currently we have approximately 1700 paying members. If every member brought in one new member we would again be at capacity and able to sustain for many years without having to impose the increases that you’ve been seeing. If we can’t get the numbers up I’m afraid you’ll at least be seeing a “Special Assessment” in the near future if not a major increase in your dues.
Please help US to keep YOUR costs down. Once again I wish to thank everyone for their cooperation with returning their dues by the October 1st deadline this past year. Really, the only problem we had this year is that the USPS randomly failed to deliver 60 or 70 cards to paid members successfully. Literally everyone who called me (except for one member trying to take advantage of a bad situation) was marked paid sent out replacement cards as you notified me. Even after verifying one members address and mailing 3 replacement cards to him and still not receiving one he had to come to the Club to pick up his card personally.
It seems that we may have some Antis at the Post Office!! No changes this year in regard to the distribution of the $150.00 renewal fee. Out of the $30.00 that normally went to our land acquisition fund, $15.00 dollars is now allocated to each of our Fish and Game programs. Since we purchased the Norton Farm, there really isn’t a large need to keep saving money for future land purchases and since the hatchery and breeder costs keep increasing every year, your board thought it would be a good idea to re-allocate funds so we could keep member costs down.
Any changes to any of our programs after the printing of this newsletter will be discussed at our monthly membership meetings. Please try to attend the monthly meetings so your voice can be heard. Reminder; 1st Tuesday of every month except for July and August. Renewals will again be going out the last week of July so you’ll have a full 60 days to remit your dues payment. PLEASE CONTACT THE CLUB IF YOU DON’T RECEIVE YOUR RENEWAL FORM OR SIMPLY SEND YOUR CHECK IN WITH A COPY OF YOUR CURRENT CARD AND WE’LL TAKE CARE OF IT.
